Azura Memory Care invites the community to take a walk in the shoes of someone with dementia through the use of the internationally known Virtual Dementia Tour on Thursday, April 25 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the New Glarus Home, located at 600 2nd Ave in New Glarus. The Virtual Dementia Tour is a 10 minute sensory experience that helps give those with full cognition the ability to understand what the disease of dementia sounds, looks and feels like.
The Virtual Dementia Tour uses educational resources and sensory stimulation to provide family and professional caregivers a way to experience the challenges faced by those living with dementia. Created by Second Wind Dreams, the Virtual Dementia Tour is scientifically proven to increase knowledge and understanding of those caring for individuals with dementia.
Attendees will have the opportunity to meet with the Tour specialists and don patented devices that alter their senses. They are then given tasks and an adapted environment, which allows them to experience the physical and mental challenges those with dementia face every day.
This is a FREE event, but attendees will need to reserve their spot by Wednesday, April 24th by calling Tammy, director of community relations for Azura, at 608-293-3971.
"We want to thank you for the loving special care you took of our mother, Diane. It was truly mom's home and you all became part of our family. Everything was home for her....from the beautiful rooms, large sunny windows all around, good food made with love, fun and personal activities from people who really loved our mom. We would highly recommend your facility to anyone. The staff from the director, to the doctor, to the nurse, to the caregivers and the maintenance man were all extremely helpful, caring, loving and professional. There are not enough words to say how much we appreciate all of you. Your exceptional care, kindness, and love were beyond anything we could have imagined. You were part of our family, and we will miss you." - Gail Sommers and Deborah Guse
