Azura Memory Care has had the honor of hosting and facilitating many Virtual Dementia Tours and is excited to be hosting an upcoming Tour at our newest addition to the Azura family of care, Azura of Oak Creek.
On Tuesday, October 10th from 9:00 am – 6:00 pm the community is invited to Azura Memory Care of Oak Creek, located at 8774 S. Mayhew Drive, to take a walk in the shoes of someone with dementia through the use of the internationally known Virtual Dementia Tour. The Virtual Dementia Tour is a 10 minute sensory experience that gives those with full cognition the ability to understand what the disease of dementia sounds, looks and feels like.
“The Virtual Dementia Tour uses educational resources and sensory stimulation to provide family and professional caregivers a way to experience the challenges faced by those living with dementia. Created by Second Wind Dreams, the Virtual Dementia Tour is scientifically proven to increase knowledge and understanding of those caring for individuals with dementia.”
At Azura, every team member experiences the Virtual Dementia Tour as a part of our MOSAIC training to ensure they have an understanding of some of the effects this disease may have on our residents; which results in higher quality of life, as well as more thoughtful approaches and engagements.
Attendees will have the opportunity to meet with the Tour facilitators and don patented devices that alter their senses. They are then given tasks and an adapted environment, which allows them to experience the physical and mental challenges those with dementia face every day. This FREE event is sponsored by Azura Memory Care, the Alzheimer’s Association and the Aging and Disability Resource Center of Milwaukee County.
Attendees should plan for a 45 minute experience and will need to reserve their spot by calling 608-284-0910.
"We want to thank you for the loving special care you took of our mother, Diane. It was truly mom's home and you all became part of our family. Everything was home for her....from the beautiful rooms, large sunny windows all around, good food made with love, fun and personal activities from people who really loved our mom. We would highly recommend your facility to anyone. The staff from the director, to the doctor, to the nurse, to the caregivers and the maintenance man were all extremely helpful, caring, loving and professional. There are not enough words to say how much we appreciate all of you. Your exceptional care, kindness, and love were beyond anything we could have imagined. You were part of our family, and we will miss you." - Gail Sommers and Deborah Guse
