Bonnie Dean, Caregiver at Azura Memory Care of Wausau, contacted the Marathon County Public Library . She noticed that a number of residents had finished reading all of the books currently available and was hoping they could donate some books.
A variety of large print mysteries, westerns, and romance books were set aside for Azura Memory Care. The Friends of the Library brought in books and will volunteer monthly to engage the residents in a Book Club reading.
Azura Memory Care of Wausau enrolled in the Library’s Outreach Program which offers in home delivery of library materials. Phyllis Paulson, a resident at Azura Memory Care, once volunteered for this very program at the library and even served on its Board of Directors. Her daughter, Louise Paulson, was very proud to talk about how her mother was very careful to document what type of book each person liked, and to carefully keep track so books would not be repeated.
Bonnie, one of Azura Memory Care’s Core Values is to encourage innovation and creativity. Another is to be exceptional. It is exceptional for you to know our resident’s history. It was innovative to bring that history to her by coordinating the Outreach Program and arranging for continued volunteers. Thank you for living our Core Values.
"We want to thank you for the loving special care you took of our mother, Diane. It was truly mom's home and you all became part of our family. Everything was home for her....from the beautiful rooms, large sunny windows all around, good food made with love, fun and personal activities from people who really loved our mom. We would highly recommend your facility to anyone. The staff from the director, to the doctor, to the nurse, to the caregivers and the maintenance man were all extremely helpful, caring, loving and professional. There are not enough words to say how much we appreciate all of you. Your exceptional care, kindness, and love were beyond anything we could have imagined. You were part of our family, and we will miss you." - Gail Sommers and Deborah Guse
