Mary Smithback had voiced her dream to graduate from the University to her caregivers at Azura Memory Care of Stoughton. The Team engaged her to find out more about her dream and learned that she had always desired to go to college, but that her parents had determined they could only send her brothers and younger sister. She had always wanted to be a teacher and still wished she had graduated.
We also learned that Mary’s commitment to education continued throughout her life. In fact, she and her husband not only made sure that each grandchild went to college, but paid for it as well.
Working with our friends at University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Education, the idea of creating an Honorary Teaching Degree for Mary materialized and was recently presented to her in full cap and gown at Azura Memory Care of Stoughton! The Stoughton Team held a ceremony and party to help Mary celebrate her accomplishment.
Thank you, Stoughton Team, for living our Core Values and making another Azura dream come true! Your efforts demonstrate the utmost Respect and Creativity. It is something she and her family will forever cherish.
"We want to thank you for the loving special care you took of our mother, Diane. It was truly mom's home and you all became part of our family. Everything was home for her....from the beautiful rooms, large sunny windows all around, good food made with love, fun and personal activities from people who really loved our mom. We would highly recommend your facility to anyone. The staff from the director, to the doctor, to the nurse, to the caregivers and the maintenance man were all extremely helpful, caring, loving and professional. There are not enough words to say how much we appreciate all of you. Your exceptional care, kindness, and love were beyond anything we could have imagined. You were part of our family, and we will miss you." - Gail Sommers and Deborah Guse
