Beautiful Visit to the Blooming Butterflies Exhibit at Olbrich Gardens in Madison

Lisa Green, Quality of Life Coordinator for Azura Memory Care of Stoughton, organized an exciting excursion for our residents to the Blooming Butterflies exhibit at Olbrich Gardens in Madison. The trip included 11 residents, Azura team members, a family member of one of our residents, and 2 of our intergenerational volunteers, Asha & AJ. This is our third annual trip to Olbrich and it truly warms our heart to see the residents’ faces light up when they approached the display cases in the lobby. What a MOSAIC moment!Stoughton-butterfly 2

The cases on display highlight different specimens of butterflies found around the world.  The residents had fun finding butterflies in their favorite colors or commenting about the patterns in the wings. When they entered the conservatory where live butterflies are freed to live for the four week long exhibit, the real fun began.

The residents were also able to ask questions of the Olbrich volunteers as they watched butterflies emerge from their chrysalis. We even saw some butterflies being released from the containment cases!  After touring the conservatory, it was time for our group to split up. While part of our group went directly to the shaded picnic tables to eat lunch, others were able to ride Olbrich’s tram which provides a narrated guided tour of the entire outdoor garden including the Thai Pavilion. This trip was a complete success!Stoughton-butterfly 3
